Rolling Motion Experiment on Inclined Plane Apparatus

Moment of inertia is an inertia of an object to move on its axis. One of the method to determine the inertia of an object is to roll an object on an inclined plane. If the acceleration of the rolling object can be detected, then its inertia value can be determined by calculating the dynamic quantities of its rotating motion and translation.

This experiment tool comprise of a set of inclined plane which is equipped with a tilt control, object holder, two test objects that is hollow and solid cylinders and USB plug ultrasonic motion sensor. The tilt control has 6 position angles, viz: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 degrees which are indicated by a protractor on the side of tool. By using various angels, the value of moment of inertia which is obtained will become more accurate.

The USB ultrasonic motion sensor detects object distance per time unit in minimum range of 0.2 m and maximum range of 10 m. Based on graph of distance against time, it can be obtained speed and acceleration graph by using math function which is available on Coach program.

Complete specification.
